Del Webb “100 Who Care” Donate $15,614 to Greene County Christian Outreach

On December 15, the Del Webb 100 Who Care organization presented $15,614 to Greene County Christian Outreach (GCCO), one of their largest donations ever.  This was made possible through The Salvation Army’s Project SHARE Program and funds provided by Georgia Power to match the donations from 100 Who Care members.  Members of the Del Webb Golf Club also donated funds to 100 Who Care to support this effort.

Project SHARE is designed primarily to allow Georgia Power residential customers to add small amounts to their monthly Georgia Power bills.  Each month, Georgia Power matches those funds and transmits them to The Salvation Army, which makes them available to local Salvation Army offices. (See accompanying article) In counties without Salvation Army offices, the funds are made available to local non-profit organizations to administer. In Greene County, GCCO is the Salvation Army Agent and uses these funds, along with cash donations, to provide short-term financial assistance to Greene County residents for rent, utilities, and lodging.

The Del Webb 100 Who Care organization has made substantial donations to local charities four times per year since its inception in 2020 for a total of $182,302 to date.  Every quarter, its members (currently 177) decide which charity they will support.  The funds are collected from the members and given to the charity.  Because all of the members are Georgia Power customers, The Salvation Army accepted these contributions and Georgia Power will match them.  More information on Project SHARE and how to participate is available on the GCCO website, greenecountychristianoutreach.org, and on the website listed at the end of the accompanying article.

Pastor Meg Jackson Clark, Co-Chairperson of the GCCO Board said “We are very grateful for the Del Webb 100 Who Care selecting us to receive this quarter’s contribution and for The Salvation Army and Georgia Power for doubling the impact of that contribution.  Thanks to this gift, we will be able to help more Greene County residents stay in their homes and keep their electricity on and their water flowing, and give homeless families temporary shelter.”

Greene County Christian Outreach is proud to be celebrating 25 years of serving Greene County residents.  In addition to providing $675,000 in short-term financial assistance since 2000, GCCO operates a Thrift Shop where gently used clothing, household items, jewelry, (new) crafting materials, and other items are available for sale at bargain prices.  The Thrift Shop is located at 402 W. Broad Street, three blocks from Main Street, in Greensboro.  (Please note that this is GCCO’s new mailing address.)  Please refer to the website for more information on operating hours, Thrift Shop donations, volunteer opportunities, and contact information.

Georgia Power and The Salvation Army Celebrate 40 Years of Project SHARE
Milestone Marks Four Decades of Service and a Renewed Vision for the Future

ATLANTA, GA – Georgia Power and The Salvation Army proudly commemorate the 40th anniversary of Project SHARE. This transformative partnership has provided life-changing assistance to individuals and families facing crisis across Georgia since 1985.

For 40 years, Project SHARE has delivered more than $91 million in critical aid to over one million Georgians, offering a lifeline through financial hardship. From emergency utility assistance to housing support, the program continues to be a trusted source of hope and stability across the state.

“Project SHARE embodies the spirit of partnership and community, enabling us to provide resources that truly change lives,” said Major John Murphy, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army of Georgia. “This milestone is a testament to the generosity of Georgia Power and their customers, and the dedication of both organizations to serving Georgia families in need.”

Georgia Power customers play a pivotal role in the program’s success, with thousands choosing to donate directly through their monthly utility bills—knowing their gift goes even further thanks to Georgia Power’s 150% match.

“As we celebrate 40 years of impact, we’re inspired to look ahead to the next 40 years of neighbors helping neighbors,” said Chimaobi Chijioke, Vice President of Customer Services for Georgia Power. “Together, we can continue to uplift communities and meet the evolving needs of Georgia families. Project SHARE reflects our enduring belief in being ‘A Citizen Wherever We Serve’—a commitment that has guided Georgia Power for more than a century. ”

The anniversary campaign will shine a spotlight on the stories of those whose lives have been changed by Project SHARE—putting a face to the impact and inviting Georgians across the state to get involved.
